Founded by Dorah Nomalanga Mazibuko, Dorah’s Ark Wings of Inspiration Care Centre has been caring for homeless children for years and has been a home to over 40 kids. Anthea Heath da Costa together with her twin Kirsten Richardson visited the centre in December last year invited by Women of God Africa to speak at their outreach.

“Six months ago I started working with Wings of Inspiration Care Centre; the twins had a dream. They wanted to work with as many people as possible, to help them. We thank God for this opportunity to be able to help the kids. We want to thank Stanlib for making this possible for us. Mom Dorah is smiling down at what is happening here today – this is a big dream”, said Heinrich Van Jaarsveld, speaking on behalf of Wings of Inspiration.

Upon visiting the center Anthea and Kirsten wanted to bring some improvements to the children’s living conditions. They approached Stanlib to come on board. The renovations took the center from a poor looking state to a beautiful, warm and homely environment. Speaking on behalf of Stanlib, Jerry Mnisi said “we got involved because we believed that if ever we as Stanlib, the financial services company are not looking after some of the disadvantaged people, we will not be able to create a prosperous South Africa”.

Asked about what he thinks the reaction of the children would be to the change, Mr. Mnisi said “for us it is not so much the building but it’s very much how you touch the children’s lives”. The company plans to be involved in furthering the development of the centre going forward.

The children, who were kept away during the renovation period returned to the centre on the morning of the ‘big reveal’ and were elated to see their new home. There were screams of jubilation and ululating from the caregivers – it was a moment of joy, celebration and tears as there was not a dry eye in the room when the kids were rejoicing.
