The Miss Eastern Cape: Beauty with a Purpose beauty pageant took place in East London at The Venue, Hemmingways Casino on Saturday evening. People came out in big numbers to support the glorious event which was fully packed with delegates from the government, private entities, media and the general public.

The founder of Miss EC: Beauty with a Purpose, Zikhona Ngxata took to the stage to officially welcome attendees with a moving speech, pleading for continued support to realise the dream behind the program. She announced the newly established Devine Diamonds Academy under the Miss Eastern Cape: Beauty with a Purpose initiative, which will integrate all participants to a Moral Regeneration journey. “Divine Diamonds is a home for broken hearts, rehab, and a builder of young women”, she anchored. As soon as they are done with Miss Eastern Cape, the participants will be absorbed into Divine Diamonds Academy for moral regeneration. The MC for the night, Algoa FM’s very own Brian Ndevu kept the crowd entertained with his charming looks and charismatic personality. The MEC for Recreation, Sports, Arts & Culture, Pemmy Majodina was among the present delegates.

The judges and the MC admirably offered their services at no cost in showing support for the program. Forever Eternity is a Bridal brand in King Williams Town, Eastern Cape. They sponsored the event with cocktails and the beautiful ball gowns for all the contestants.

The journey to the top five was very tough as all the beautiful contestants were fully prepared. The glittering gowns were shining under the bright blue lights as the audience cheered for their favourite beauty queens gracing the stage with elegant beauty and confidence. The elimination process came down to five categories. These were Miss Personality, Miss Philanthropist, Second Princess, First Princess and Miss Eastern Cape.

Lilitha Nkohla was crowned Miss Personality and Asanda Mbuku with Miss Philanthropist. The top three narrowed down to Papama Malawu as the second princess, Mihlali Jekwa as the first princess. The crown for Miss Eastern Cape: Beauty with a purpose went to the OR Tambo District Medical Student, Nomthandazo Shange. Shange walked away with a R50000 cash prize, a car that will drive her around for her duties as, sponsored by Ronnie’s Motors, as well as sponsored clothing, shoes and sportswear for the duration of her reign.

She will also be the new face of responsible gambling for The Gambling Board. Speaking to the media, she said being Miss Eastern Cape means she has a platform to impact young women’s lives positively thereby changing their lives for the better. “I am truly excited, not only for winning but also for being a part of this wonderful program. The skills and knowledge it has empowered me with will expand my horizons forever”, she said.

Ngxata said that she hopes that the program and the Academy will grow, reach out to more young women in the province. “We would like to thank all the sponsors, with their support we are able to touch these young women and they set good examples for their own communities”, she anchored.
