Defined by a beautiful mountainous landscape, scattered bushveld with trees and shrubs, the North West province is home to the majestic Sun City, an incredible getaway spot for any occasion. This pleasantly hot province is also home to one of the three beautiful North West University campuses, popularly known “Pukke”. Found in a nice quiet town of Potchefstroom, Pukke is one the largest among the three and the only one that caters for Afrikaans speakers, while the other two are broader in orientation.

Pukke recently welcomed a diversity of students from all over the country for the commencement of a brand-new year. The air was filled with excitement and joy, as the first-year students were rushing to classes holding before them printed timetables showing each subject and its venue. However, returning students were very much relaxed, as they knew where all their classes were located, so they strolled around the beautiful lash lawn and reunited with friends and all you could hear was laughter.

This is the beginning of an entirely different journey compared to high school. New students will have to learn how to be responsible on their own, as there will be no mom or dad to tell them what to do. It is also a journey of self-discovery, they will acquire skills, knowledge, friendship and of course, a degree!

Due to a great number of admissions, some students were still waiting in queues for registration and financial assistance. The waiting area could not shelter all of them from the scorching heat of Potchefstroom. However, through patience and a lot of water they reached the end of the queue, where they were warmly welcomed and assisted.

The year will be long, stressful, and hot, but through perseverance, dedication, and great company it will feel like a breeze.
