The 24th South African Music Awards (SAMAs) were held at the Super Bowl Arena in Sun City hosted by Mpho Popps, Somizi Mhlongo and Dineo Ranaka. The presenters complimented each other with no one outshining the other which left the audience fully satisfied with jokes, fashion and a lot of great music in between.

It was all glitz and glamour with every celebrity coming out in their best outfits, Ricky Rick looking rather trendy with a pink sack around his face that caused controversy and people starting the hashtag #RickyRickchallenge on Twitter. Somizi kept his promise of pulling out all stops this year since it was his last time hosting the SA Music Awards; he indeed had seven different outfits that he wore with pride and elegance.

With an audience chanting and celebrating recognized musicians in their respective genres, the President of the country appeared twice on stage and the audience embraced him with political songs which blurred the boards around politics and entertainment.

Distraction Boys walked away with the biggest award of the night Best Record of the Year for their song Omunye while first time winner Shekhinah bagged herself Best New Comer and Female artist of the year and Album of the year awards. Shane Eagle walked away with Best Hip-Hop album award beating the likes of Emtee to it.

Although AKA has confirmed that he broke up with his new girlfriend, the rock saga is still on everyone's lips. LaSizwe together with Ntando presented Best Female and Best Male of the year award with Lasizwe jokingly saying "Come on rock, can the artist I am rooting for win this award".

Performances from Rouge, Nadia Nakai and Prime Circle and others graced the stage while Nadia Nakai gave a show stopper performance dedicated to all women.

President Cyril Ramaphosa was rather impressed saying that he loved how the audience sang struggle songs, after he presented the lifetime achievement award with Minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa. A well-deserved life time achievement award recipient Steve Kekana gave a heart-warming speech as well as fellow International Achievement award winner Shashika Mooruth saying it is an honour to receive the award from the president of the county.

Lady Zamar, Something Soweto, Mafikizolo are all also some of the big winners of the night.

After the SAMA24, there is a glimpse of hope that the people will get their land back, as Mpho Popps joked.
