We have heard that salaries are the biggest dream killers because of the comfort and stability they bring, but founding member and CEO of predictably what will take over the Mzansi online (digital) music space by storm has not let his dream die. SbusisoMotha sold his car, downsized his apartment and lifestyle for TuneUpSA.

Sbusiso and MlamliNganase (lifelong friend) are former music students who embarked on starting an online distribution company because of the music distribution challenges they faced. The company is for unsigned local musicians and producers seeking a platform to sell their craft while making a profit from that. It is a platform that truly benefits and enables musicians to have a sustainable living, making music is seen as a full time career to these two gentlemen. Music is a big part of our lives apart from marches, strikes, church choirs and Adele shower performances, many talented South Africans are struggling to make means with what they are always putting hard work into which is music. TuneUpSA could be filling in this gap.

For all talented unsigned music makers who are intrigued, the following are requirements needed in order to sell on TuneUpSA: an ISPC code, SAMRO registration, a cover art, and R159 (once a year). The music is screened for quality and to know its genre.

Fans, followers and supporters can get their favourite local artist’s music from the website from subscribing. To hone in on catering to the South African market artist can choose to purchase voucher cards/ coupons that can be sold on the spot after performances and redeemed on the website.

For future investors/sponsors the initiative is to train future online distributers, music screeners, social media managers, call center agents specifically for a digital market. As the world progresses to a digital dominance your investment will be a catalyst in South Africa heading there.

TuneUpSA is currently a staff of 8 people who do everything from IT to web design to administration, music screening. Any volunteers contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Motha says the ultimate goal for 2019 is to officially launch in the first quarter of the year, to have 90-100 employees and for the company to trickle across Southern Africa in the last quarter.
