With the SA Heroes Awards rapidly approaching, on this week’s episode of On The Red Couch, we met up with Kirsten and Anthea who are nominees in the Specialised Care category.

Twin sisters passionate about the well-being of others, with one of the sisters (Anthea) who struggled with addiction which landed her on the streets and in and out of shelters with her family. With the help of these shelters, she got sober and when her aunt passed on, she left both sisters with an inheritance.

Anthea and Kirsten then decided to both open an organization by the name of Wings of inspiration, aimed at giving back to the community and helping the needy, the organization has four umbrellas under it, which are Sober Home | Wings of Inspiration Play Group | Dorah’s Ark Orphanage | Old Age Home | Wings of Inspiration Soup kitchen.

“The vision was opening a woman and kids shelter, because of what I have been through and how these shelters were very helpful to me and my family, I felt like I had to give back to the community by providing the same help I received. We started with the sober house that is aimed at helping addicts and get them ready again to integrate with the community and then we opened the orphanage” Kirsten said.

These twin sisters have literally laid down their lives for the well-being of others, with the team from their communities such as volunteers, social workers and counselors as well. This makes it easier for them to be able to get the job done and be able to help each and every person that comes to the organization needing help.

“We do not see people like a number, we treat each and every person as family, and once they come in they become part of the wings of inspiration family. We also teach the kids in our orphanage to be an example to those behind them; we call it the generations of helping hands.”

Their compassion for the well-being of each and every human being in the community has been recognised by the SA Heroes awards and having them nominated in the Specialised Care category.

And they had this to say “We were very surprised by this nomination, we were not expecting it at all, we do not want to own all the glory but all honour goes to the community, everyone who is a helping, we really appreciate you and It is really an honour that we are recognised for what we do and to be honest, win or not win this already being nominated to us means a lot. We never do anything to be recognised but it is all from the bottom of hearts, thank you to SA Heroes for creating such a platform that recognise the everyday heroes and having them all come together to celebrate one another, we appreciate you.”
