Founder and Ceo of Jacoba football Academy Nominated for the SA HEROES AWARDS.

Dimitry Athanasopoulos, born and bred in Johannesburg South Africa, grew up playing soccer in the streets and school found passion and love for through this, his goal being a professional soccer but due to the injuries acquired in the way could not able him to live out his dream.

But that never took away his passion for the game as he identified the need of the game in his community, he then approached his now partner (Tido) in discussion to just create a platform that would take kids off the streets and have and help  build their confidence and fitness levels while at the same time striving to fulfil their soccer dreams in a nurturing and safe environment.

Seven years later this partnership, and love and passion for the game has found them an academy ; (Jacoba Football Club started in October 2012, as a grass roots soccer outreach programme for underprivileged children who come from difficult and impoverished backgrounds. Our Outreach program supports a host of boys ranging from 9 to 17 years old of which we have over 190 boys who have joined our club from the surrounding areas, mainly Yeoville, Hillbrow, Berea, Bellevue and Norwood  in Johannesburg South Africa.)
An academy that's changing the lives of the youth in every aspect , from playing the game, learning more about the game, the academy that is structured to instituting the principles of unity, trust, humility, discipline, superior effort and pride Jacoba Football Club is dedicated to providing excellence in the development of soccer players.

" Jacoba FC is a superior training program for individual and team goals and priorities and is driven by experienced, motivated soccer enthusiasts, who's expertise are reflected in the diversity and quality of the curriculum offered. "
Says Dimitri.

With the support of the community and other organizations, Jacoba has managed to place kids in schools, universities and provide a roof over those that are not housed. Not only focused on playing but also teaching them on the game itself, just providing a learning environment for everyone who is willing to learn more about the game .

"All we do is for love of the game, just to think how a ball is just round but it is able to change the lives of people, make them travel the world, meet the most influential people in the world and it's just round. Being nominated for this Inaugural award is really an honor for us because we don't do what we do to be recognized but we just love the game and this is how we are able to changes the lives of the youth around us. Win or not win we really are humbled and honored by just being nominated is really unbelievable and we really appreciate those that come in from the community and help without being remunerated and they just do it for the Love of the game, as well as the boys, they are all behind us. To everyone who has been voting for us, we really appreciate it and thank you to SA HEROES AWARDS for recognizing us as the club."
